VIDALIA — Services for Gilbert Tyrone Wexler, 53, of Ridgecrest, who died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond T. Riley Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Whitehall Cemetery in Vidalia under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Wexler was born Nov. 25, 1963, in Natchez, the son of Theodore McCoy Sr. and Dorothy Wexler Martin.
He received his early education in Vidalia and was a 1981 graduate.
Gilbert was employed by Vidalia Apparel for 20 years and at Walmart for five years as a second job. He was working for (GEO) LaSalle Correctional Center in Jena, La., until his death.
Mr. Wexler married Karla Mitchell June 24, 2000, and to this union their daughter, Sha-Reeba Shantelle Gabrielle Wexler was born and blessed with a stepdaughter, Sha-Darrian Sheree Loucrecy Smith.
Mr. Wexler was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Theodore L. Henry; maternal grandfather, Willie Albert Sr.; paternal grandmother, Margaret Compton; two aunts, Carrie Lee Albert and Essie Albert; two uncles, John Henry Albert and David Rogers Albert Sr.; one great-uncle, John Henry Woodard; four great-aunts, Eloise Turner, Leola Ellis, Florida Mae Reese and Annie Brown; and two great-great-aunts, Vinnie Jones and Josie Singleton; and one brother-in-law, Jacob Larry.
Survivors include a loving wife of 16 years, Karla; one daughter, Sha-Reeba Wexler; one stepdaughter, Sha-Darrian Smith, both of Ridgecrest; one step-grandson, LaPatrick Smith; his mother and her husband, Willie, of Waterproof; two brothers, Guy B. Henry and wife, Lenora, retired Sgt. 1st Class of South Carolina, and Glenn M. Henry of Houston; one sister, Brenda Larry of Natchez; four brothers-in-law, Patrick Mitchell and wife, Lena, Leon Francis, Marcus Francis and Lionel Francis, all of Jonesville; four sisters-in-law, Yolanda Mitchell and fiancé, Roger, Yvette Mitchell, Sheena Mitchell and Angela Jackson, all of Tallulah, La.; his grandmother, Elnora W. Albert; three aunts, Lottie M. Albert, Betty A. Wilson and Elnora A. Riley and husband, Raymond, all of Vidalia; three uncles, Willie Albert Jr. of New Orleans, retired Sgt. 1st Class James Albert of Dallas and Charles A. Albert and wife, Idella, of Vidalia; two great-aunts, Ruby Davis and Ellen Lynch of Vidalia; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
