NATCHEZ — An Adams County election commissioner said around noon Tuesday voter turnout has been slow so far in the election for the school district’s $35 million bond issue for a district-wide building project.

The Natchez-Adams School District seeks approval for the $35 million bond issue for its building program. The plan, as presented by district leaders but not yet approved by the school board, would build a new high school, and renovate Natchez High School, Morgantown Middle School and McLaurin Elementary School.

“I know it has not been very busy,” said Election Commissioner Larry Gardner. “It is not busy here at the courthouse. It has not been busy at the polling places we have been so far.

“I would say it is not a large turnout this point. But you never know, at lunchtime and afterward into evening time, you can get a good push. Maybe we will get a push later.”

Gardner said volunteers have not encountered any issues.
