Graduates highlight good news

As area graduates continued to celebrate the end of high school and look to their futures, let us pause to reflect on some of the highlights from last week:

Rudy Nugent knows that school is not just about making good grades. School is about asking questions, searching for answers and pushing to learn more for the Cathedral School 2017 STAR student. Nugent also knows that some of the credit for his academic successes goes to his parents and teachers, including his English teacher Jean Biglane. Nugent chose Biglane as his STAR teacher. Congratulations to Nugent for his achievements, which we know will continue to grow.

Fourteen graduates from the Natchez Early College Academy are not just leaving high school with diplomas. They are leaving will hours of college credit that will give them a jumpstart to academic success in college. Each of the students from NECA’s first graduating class will leave with between 20 to 34 college credits. The credits will help the students save approximately a year’s worth of college tuition and fees, NECA principal Kesha Broady-Campbell said.

Students from Delta Charter School and from Adams County Christian School hosted graduation ceremonies last week. The event was momentous for Delta Charter because the school celebrated the first graduating the class for the Ferriday school that started four years ago. ACCS celebrated its 47th commencement ceremony with a graduating class of 39 seniors. Delta Charter School graduated 32 seniors.

Congratulations to all of the graduates in the Miss-Lou.

As we enter a new week of new opportunities, let us remember to always be on the lookout for good things in our community.
