Gregg Dental Center squeezes out win in Dixie Youth

Gregg Dental Center youth baseball team pounded out 12 hits and swiped 13 bases to get past Progressive Tractor & Implement 20-10 in the 10-12 year old Majors Division Friday night in Dixie Youth action.
GDC started off strong and finished equally as impressive, scoring five in the first inning and eight more in the fourth.
“The guys were on their game, swinging at good pitches,” GDC coach Jarrod Gregg said. “My little smurfs, they took care of business.”
All nine players in the GDC order recorded at least one hit, led by Sean Kerry Cothren’s three hits, including a triple. Braeden Gregg stole five bases in addition to picking up a double and a single.
But perhaps Friday’s biggest hits came from Kaden Trahan, who roped a triple in the first before recording an inside-the-park two-run homer in the fourth.
“It’s beyond fun (when everyone is hitting), the kids are all happy,” Gregg said. “We were a little scared with school being out that they would be wanting to go swimming or something else, but they showed up to play, and we won.”
Despite falling behind early, PTI never gave up. PTI rallied for a single run in the first, before scoring three runs in each of the final three frames.
“It was a tough game, but we just didn’t play as well as we should have,” PTI coach Glen Whittington said.
Davis Cooper led PTI with a double, a single, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Landon Whittington added a triple, a double and two RBIs.
“We are trying to teach them to enjoy the sport, because that’s what it’s all about, having fun,” Whittington said.
