NATCHEZ — An apparent intruder gunned down a 32-year-old Adams County man early Tuesday while he slept.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jerry Brown said at approximately 2:45 a.m. deputies received a call from a mother who reported hearing shots fired in her Southmoor Drive residence and found her son, Kelvin Sadler Brown, unresponsive in his bed.
Jerry Brown said the victim was shot multiple times, including once in the head. He was dead when investigators arrived at approximately 3 a.m., Jerry Brown said.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said the killing was one of the most horrible scenes he had ever seen in more than 20 years.
“There is no doubt the perpetrator wanted (the victim) dead at any cost,” Lee said Tuesday.
Jerry Brown said the apparent intruder came in through a window in the front of the house and exited through the back kitchen door.
At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jerry Brown said investigators were still going door to door in Broadmoor. Jerry Brown said investigators do not have any concrete leads.
Kelvin Sadler Brown had been the victim of a shooting on Southmoor Drive on May 1. Kelvin Sadler Brown was shot multiple times after an apparent confrontation with a shooter and was airlifted to a Jackson hospital.
Martez Rashard Brown, 17, 310-B Dumas Drive, was arrested early the next morning for attempted first-degree murder. Martez Brown was in jail Tuesday with no bond set.
Sheriff Travis Patten said Martez Brown and Kelvin Sadler Brown are not related.
