FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man was arrested Sunday charged with armed robbery and could face charges in separate armed robbery occurring on the same night.

Ferriday Police arrested Donnie Sanders III, 18, at Sonic Drive-In Sunday after he allegedly attempted to spend a counterfeit $20 bill, said FPD Investigator Richard Madison. Police also had a warrant for Sanders’ arrest for home invasion and armed robbery.

At approximately 11 p.m. Friday, Sanders and another man reportedly kicked in the front door of a Sixth Street residence, Madison said. Madison said Sanders allegedly pulled a pistol on a Ferriday woman inside and robbed the victim of $120.

Madison said the victim told the alleged robbers that the big money was not in the house. Once the victim was outside, Madison said she allegedly screamed and ran away from the residence.

Early the next day, a Ferriday man was reportedly robbed by suspects matching the same description of the Sixth Street robbery, Madison said.

Madison said on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Georgia Avenue, a young man was walking to a store when two subjects approached him.

The victim was allegedly pistol whipped to the point of causing blood and forced to relinquish an undetermined amount of money, Madison said. Madison said the suspects also demanded the victim strip down to his underwear and they reportedly took his clothes and boots.

Madison said the victim in the second alleged robbery was treated and released from Riverland Medical Center.

Pending further investigation, Madison said Sanders and another man could face charges in this incident.

Sanders’ brother, Demetris R. Trask, 20, 710 Eighth St., was reportedly with Sanders when the counterfeit bill was allegedly presented at Sonic. Trask was charged with monetary instrument abuse and also had a bench warrant for failure to appear for possession of marijuana.

Madison asked anyone with information to call Ferriday Police at 318-757-3606 and ask to speak to him. Madison said he also encouraged anyone who had been robbed recently to come forward.

“Other people have been robbed, but they are not reporting it,” Madison said. “We know there have been other robberies.”

Sanders, 804 Eighth St., was in jail Monday afternoon on $160,000 bond. Trask was in jail Monday afternoon with no bond set.
