NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Adams County residents should know who their neighbors are, especially if the man or woman down the street is a convicted sex offender.

The sheriff’s office recently compiled an updated list of sex offenders as part of Operation Innocence.

Teamed with the U.S. Marshal Service, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and local law enforcement spent two days in January conducting 57 in-person compliance checks across Adams County.

The purpose of the operation was to accurately verify information, such as current addresses, from the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry.

“Out of 57, we found five sex offenders non-compliant with registration for different reasons,” Mayfield said.

Victims assistance coordinator Deputy Karren Ewing said sex offenders are required to reregister as sex offenders every 90 days.

A state statute says law enforcement agencies are authorized to publicly release relevant and necessary information regarding sex offenders.

“The public needs to be aware (of sex offenders) for safety reasons,” Ewing said.

Sex offenders registered in Adams County are:

• Dwight Anderson, 46, 510 N. Union St., Apt. 6, convicted for charges of indecent behavior with juveniles.

•Cornelius Baldwin, 26, 2002 Lotus Drive, currently on probation with Mississippi Department Of C, convicted of aggravated assault with intent to rape.

• Earl Barrington Jr., 66, 61 Starnes Drive, convicted of attempted criminal sexual penetration.
