The good news? The government is still open. But the news doesn’t stop there.

While federal employees waited and wondered last week, the Miss-Lou kept ticking, creating great stories along the way.

Let’s review a few of the good things that happened last week.

4 The Southern Road to Freedom choir has had another successful year telling an important part of Natchez’s history through song. Their performance adds so much to the annual Spring Pilgrimage, and we thank the choir members for sacrificing their time.

4 Adams County Christian School went a bit wild Saturday, in a good way. The school’s annual spring fling provided a fun-filled family day for dozens in our community and raised money for the school along the way.

4Things got lively Saturday at the Rockabilly Plaza in Ferriday. The town’s open-air musical stage played host to a free concert for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to the city leaders and volunteers who made this event — and the plaza — a reality.

4The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has recognized the hard work of an area sheriff’s deputy. Toney Edwards of the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office is headed to Washington, D.C., May 18 to be recognized for his work in solving the case of Lexis Roberts, a teenager whose remains were found in the parish in the fall.

Congratulations to Edwards; we are lucky to have men like you serving all of us.
