BATON ROUGE — A Natchez man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle accident in East Baton Rouge Parish.
At approximately 1 a.m., the 2009 Dodge Charger Charles Buchannan, 38, was driving on U.S. 61 veered to the right and exited the roadway before striking a private driveway, becoming airborne and rolling several times, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police Troop A.
Buchannan and the passenger in the front seat, Jonathan Humphrey, 23, of Baton Rouge, were not wearing seat belts and were both ejected from the vehicle, the statement said.
Buchannan was pronounced dead at the scene, and Humphrey sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
The two passengers in the back seat, Conner Mantrean, 20, of Natchez, and Larry Foster, 20, of Baton Rouge, were wearing seat belts and were not ejected from the vehicle, the statement said.
The back seat passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and the release said investigators believe speed contributed to the accident.
The accident is still under investigation.
