Trinity Episcopal’s Dee Fleming set a new state record en route to winning two individual state titles at the MAIS AA state track and field championships Friday at Jackson Academy.
Fleming leapt 22’ 8.75’’ in the long jump, breaking the old state record of 22’ 6.25’’.
“It was great, unbelievable,” Fleming said. “I wasn’t even jumping (this far) until I got here (to the event) today. I just had it all, and Coach (Graham Roberts) is really proud.”
The junior also recorded a first place finish in the triple jump, registering a leap of 42’ 11.5’’.
“This is my first year doing triple jump,” Fleming said. “I was expecting to win long jump, but not triple jump, so it was really special to get that one.”
Trinity’s David Jackson also had a strong showing as the senior finished second in the high jump after recording a leap of 5’10’’.
