Lady Saints claim South State title, boys finish second

Eight members of the Trinity Episcopal School tennis team reached final matches during the MAIS Class AA South State Tournament at Duncan Park Wednesday, and all will advance to the state tournament next Wednesday in Jackson.
Of the five individual and group matches, three Saints teams were able to claim South State titles.
Overall, the Lady Saints won the South State title, edging out Newton Academy by just a half a point. The Trinity boys came in second in the tournament overall.
McKenzie Smith and Hannah Fitt defeated Sara Robinson and Anna Clair Ryan of WCCA in their final match, 6-1, 6-3 for the No. 1 girls doubles championship.
Mila Robb and Madalyn Falkenheiner defeated Piper Rose and Maria Graham of Newton Academy, 6-3, 7-5 for the No. 2 girls doubles title.
For the mixed doubles title, Grant Falkenheiner and Lucy Pyron defeated two-time defending state champions Sarah Mazzella and Braden Smith of Newton Academy, 6-2, 6-2.
Also advancing to the Class AA State Tournament will be No. 1 boys singles and No. 2 boys singles, Cole Mosby and Hunter Yarbrough.
Each won their semifinal matches to advance.
The state tournament will be hosted at Ridgeland Tennis Center.
