NATCHEZ — The third-annual Claws for a Cause lobster fundraiser returns next month to raise money for two special non-profits.

The event  will be from 5 to 9 p.m., May 21 at Trinity Episcopal Church. South Commerce Street and Washington Street near the church will be blocked off to make room for the outreach fundraiser.

With the 21st house currently under construction in Natchez by Habitat for Humanity, church member Hyde Carby said it is a time to celebrate this life-changing charity of 25 years.

“One of the ways the lobster idea was brought about was because the church wanted to bring something unique to Natchez,” Carby said. “There aren’t a lot of lobster boils in Natchez.”

Carby volunteers to crack lobsters for the event.

Because the lobsters are being shipped in live, they have to be pre-sold. Tickets must be purchased before 5 p.m. May 15.

Tickets can be purchased now at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pearl Street Pasta and through members of the church.

Tickets are $45 for one and a half pounds of fresh Maine lobster.

Tickets for barbecue chicken dinner plates are $20, and hamburger plates are $10.

Carby said the streets will be closed to make space for live music from local artists and activities for children such as a jump house.

The money made through ticket sales will benefit the Natchez-Adams County chapter of Habitat for Humanity and Camp Bratton Green Special Sessions, a camp for children with physical and mental disabilities.

Camp Bratton Green is a camp affiliated with the Mississippi Diocese of the Episcopal Church.

Carby said the Natchez-Adams chapter of Habitat for Humanity is well known for its support to the community.

“Come out and support wonderful causes. All of the money that we raise will go to these charities,” Carby said. “It’s also a fun event.”
