Cool weather finishes off week of good news

An unusually cool Sunday was a welcome treat for Miss-Lou residents, given that summer’s heat and humidity are not far away.

As we enjoy the weather, let us remember some of the highlights from last week:

  • A small legion of local leaders and community members took to the street Saturday morning with one mission in mind — making Natchez and Adams County beautiful. Residents filled garbage bags with litter and debris they picked up along streets in all four city wards and county districts. Organizers hope to make Saturday’s Community Cleanup Day an annual effort. Thanks to all who worked hard. Their efforts should remind us of the responsibility we all have to our community.
  • The Natchez Visitor Reception Center recently finished making changes to give tourists a warmer welcome. Tourism Director Jennifer Combs and other tourism officials have turned the center’s pilothouse display into a welcome desk to greet visitors at the front door. The light-up model of Natchez has been relocated to another part of the building. The modifications are just the beginning in a series of changes tourism officials will make as they work to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Former Trinity cheerleader Taylor Brown knows what it takes to be on one of the country’s elite cheerleading squads. Brown and her teammates from the University of Southern Mississippi recently competed at the National Cheerleading   Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. Competing in front of a televised audience, the USM squad placed fifth in the intermediate small coed division. Congratulations to Brown for her accomplishments and for making the Miss-Lou proud.

As we enjoy the gorgeous weather this week, remember to thank those who continue to make our community great.
