After jumping out to an early lead, the Clippers of the Miss-Lou Activities Association took down the Warriors in age 4-6 boys and girls youth basketball action Saturday morning at Morgantown Elementary School, 16-8.
Tydarrius Bailey and Kenard Williams each sank a 3-pointer to get things started, locking in a 6-2 lead for the Clippers after the first quarter.
The Clippers continued to dominate, shutting out the Warriors in the third period with the help of strong rebounding.
League Director Nook Logan said the purpose of starting the kids at such a young age is to make sure they learn the proper skills and techniques.
“We just want to teach them to get down the floor after the other team shoots,” he said. “Teaching them that when they score they have to take the ball out and then to dribble up the floor. It’s about them trying to get to know the basics.”
Williams led the Clippers with 10 points and Bailey finished with six.
Trynt Williams scored six points for the Warriors, and Kameryn Holden had two.
Logan said he also tries to get the kids to practice their free throw-shooting when the opportunity presents itself.
“It’s just little stuff they aren’t able to work on with their parents at home,” he said. “We want them in the gym watching the older guys. Then they understand and they want to be in here.”
