NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly trying to run over a man with an SUV, crashing into a building on Martin Luther King Jr. Street and fleeing the scene.
Natchez Police Department Lt. Julius Steele said Lakisha Holmes, 28, 160 St. Catherine St., allegedly tried to run over a man she believed was spreading rumors about her.
Instead, Steele said, Holmes crashed into a building at 317 Martin Luther King Jr. St., beside Taste of Chicago restaurant. The building is vacant, police reported, and no one was inside at the time of the incident.
The man Holmes allegedly tried to run over was uninjured in the incident, Steele said.
Holmes allegedly fled the scene of the incident. Soon after officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 5 p.m., an officer on Briel Avenue spotted Holmes in a GMC Yukon matching the description of the vehicle involved in the incident.
Holmes was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, felony malicious mischief and no driver’s license. She was being held Wednesday evening in the Natchez City Jail without a bond.
