CENTREVILLE — The Centreville Academy Tigers, ranked No. 5 in Class AA took a varsity doubleheader sweep from the seventh-ranked Silliman Institute Wildcats Friday afternoon.

In the first game of an important MAIS District 5-AA doubleheader for both teams, Centreville defeated Silliman 7-3. Hunter Devall was the winning pitcher.

The second game wasn’t nearly as close as the first one was as the Tigers took care of the Wildcats 12-2 in just five innings. Cliff Hurst got the win on the mound.

Centreville improved to 18-6 overall and 8-3 in district play. The Tigers play at Silliman next Monday with just the varsity game taking place at 6 p.m. This game was postponed last Monday due to inclement weather.

Central Private sweeps ACCS,

wins district title

BAKER, La. — Christopher Perry hit three home runs for Adams County Christian School in its varsity doubleheader against Central Private School. However, that was just about all the offense the visiting Rebels could muster against the host Rebels.

Central Private defeated ACCS 10-4 in the first game and 11-1 in five innings in Game 2 to win the MAIS District 5-AA championship with a 10-2 record in district play. ACCS, however, was dealt a big blow to its playoff chances as it finished at 5-7.

In the first game, Tyler Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to lead Central Private, which had 10 hits and took advantage of five ACCS errors. The host Rebels scored twice in the bottom of the third inning and three times in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach. Blake Chelette was the winning pitcher for Central Private while Jake Brumfield was charged with the loss.

Perry hit two home runs and went 3-for-4 while Brumfield was 2-for-3 with a home run to lead ACCS at the plate.

The second game belonged to Central Private in all three facets of the game. Grant Wiedeman pitched a two-hitter. His only mistake was a pitch he left over the plate that Perry sent out of the park for his third home run of the day and his 16th of the season.

Central Private had eight hits while ACCS helped out by committing 10 errors. And for the second straight game, Central Private’s defense didn’t have a single error. Ryan Young had a double and Brown went 2-for-3.

ACCS (14-9 overall) plays at Hillcrest Christian at 5 p.m. next Monday.
