The Monterey Lady Wolves went on the road and stunned the Oak Hill Lady Rams 7-1 Tuesday night in the Class B bi-district round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Softball State Tournament.

“We played probably the best game we played all year,” head coach Cary Shivley said. We played good defense. We hit good pitches. Took what they gave us.”

Madison Taliaferro was the winning pitcher for No. 17 seed Monterey. Shivley said Taliaferro did a good job on the mound against No. 16 seed Oak Hill.

“She hit her spots well, and we played good defense for her,” Shivley said.

Monterey (12-14) will be on the road once again as they play at No. 1 seed Holden in the regional round at 4 p.m. Friday.

BLOCK 14, HAYNESVILLE 4

The Block Lady Bears took care of the Haynesville Lady Golden Tornadoes 14-4 in five innings Tuesday afternoon in the Class 1A bi-district round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHAA Softball State Tournament.

“This was the first playoff win in several years for Block softball,” Lady Bears head coach Bo Sproles said.

Block, the No. 16 seed, had several players with multiple hits. Kastacia O’Steen and Delecia Ceasor led the way with 3-for-4 performances, with O’Steen belting two doubles. Tyren Carter was 2-for-2 with a double and Carial Crumpton was 2-for-3.

Alexis Laprairie went 2-for-3 with two doubles before leaving the game in the bottom of the third inning with a knee injury after attempting to slide into third base. Sproles said Laprairie will not return for the remainder of the postseason.

“We hit the ball really well today,” Sproles said.

Tadravia Johnson had a solid outing on the mound against No. 17 Haynesville to pick up the win.

Block (record not available) will travel to Olla, La. to take on No. 1 seed LaSalle High School at 5 p.m. Thursday in the regional round.
