FERRIDAY — Services for Russell Basker Crum, 94, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Ferriday, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Bruce Runner officiating.
Burial will follow at Crum Family Cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Crum was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Wisner, La., the son of Basker Crum and Bessie Tidwell Crum.
Mr. Crum served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 31 years of service as postmaster. After retirement, he served God and preached for the next 32 years in a number of churches.
Mr. Crum was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Lamar Crum and Ernest Marion Crum; and three sisters, Edna Enloe, Lois Williams and Melonie Dinger.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Catherine Crum; one son, Russ Marion Crum of Monterey; one daughter, Sherrie Crum Hakes and husband, Mike of Denver, Colo.; two grandsons, Ryan McDowell and Kenneth Cade Crum; four granddaughters, Kimberly Sterner, Leslie Leann Crum, Jennifer May Crum and Chelsea Kaitlin Crum; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Alexander Sterner, Lily Catherine Sterner, Lexie Claire Sterner and Kamdyn Cayde Grantham; and one sister, Jeanie Hale of Houston.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Enlow, Buster Ford, Jimmy Dinger, Ronnie Crum, John Russell and Harry Peyton.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Monterey Christian Church.
