After a weekend filled with Easter egg hunts, sunrise church services and joyous religious celebrations, we pause to look back at some of the highlights from last week:

-Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church celebrated the dedication of a new church sanctuary with praises of joy and thanksgiving. Members of the Vidalia church paraded from their old church on Laurel Street to their newly constructed building on Concordia Avenue. Congratulations to the church for their achievement.

-The Vidalia Women’s Club announced the return of the annual Jim Bowie Festival last week. The club will be overseeing the April 29-30 event with the Jim Bowie Festival Committee. Although the event will be scaled back this year, organizers hope the event will grow bigger and bigger each year. Thanks to the Vidalia Women’s Club for bringing back this important festival back to the community.

-Natchez High School’s Nigel Dent said he appreciates the support he receives from his mother and teachers. But the senior knows that his success in life is ultimately in his hands. Dent is this year’s Natchez-Adams School District  STAR student. Dent chose English and Spanish teacher Angela B. Brooks as his STAR teacher. Dent credits Brooks with being one of the teachers who has helped push him to succeed. Dent said he worked hard to achieve a 31 on the ACT, and he is glad to see his hard work pay off. With his persistence and hard work we know much success lies ahead for Dent.
