FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School point guard Chanta Poole will be taking her talents to Wesson next spring.

Friday morning, Poole signed a scholarship to play for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves. Lady Trojans head coach Lisa Abron said Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young had been tracking Poole’s career for a while.

“He’s always kept in touch with me every year looking at players for as long as I can remember,” Abron said.

“Southern Miss had been tracking (Poole), but she had some problems with the ACT, so she’s having to go with plan B. Coach Young always told me if (Poole) didn’t make the score, that he wanted her.”

Playing for Co-Lin will also allow Poole to reunite with some friends of her around the Miss-Lou, Abron said.

“Keosha Bradley from Natchez High is already there, and so are two players from Franklin County (Cee Cee Miller and Page Webster),” Abron said.

“That’s a really good situation for her, and on top of that, coach Young says he needs a point guard. I think she’ll fit right into what he does.”

Abron also said the Lady Wolves’ program has been established for years, and has performed well on a national level.

The Lady Trojans will miss Poole’s level of play, Abron said, but she also said she’s glad Poole is able to continue her playing career.

“When she first came to Ferriday, she had an impact right off the bat, but I already had so many good players,” Abron said.

“She didn’t have to do a whole lot until last year and this year, and she did what we needed her to do to help us get to the playoffs each year. I’m going to miss her — she’ll be hard to replace.”
