NATCHEZ — Services for Thelma Briggs January, 76, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. January was born July 9, 1934, in Adams County, the daughter of Frank Patterson and Rosie Lee Briggs. She was raised by her stepfather, Marshall Thomas Sr.
She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where she served as an usher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Will T. January; one son, Charles Thomas; four brothers, Venell Thomas, Marshall Thomas Jr., Odell Thomas and Edward Thomas; and one granddaughter, Tatanisha Thomas.
Survivors include one son, James Thomas and wife, Ernestine; two brother, Markes Thomas and Hosea Thomas, all of Natchez; two uncles, Hosea Briggs and Moses Lake, both of Washington; two grandchildren, Zadier Thomas and Eric Thomas, both of Natchez; four great-grandchildren, T’Uante Thomas, Treorna Thomas, Treveon Thomas and Avery Fleming, all of Natchez; a special niece, Barbara Green; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
