FAYETTE — Services for Clemmie Gales, 77, of Fayette, who died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Jefferson County Hospital, will be noon Saturday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Dr. Elvis E. Colenburg officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Baptist Church No. 1 Cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Gales was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Fayette, the son of Hugh Miller Gales Sr. and Louise Scott Gales-Gaines.
He attended Poplar Hill School in Jefferson County and was employed by Illinois Central Railroad.
He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and a member of the Social Hunting Club in Jefferson County.
Survivors include two daughters, Esther Perryman and husband, Jackie, and Shirley Bailey, all of Fayette; two sons, Vernon Gales and wife, Izora, of Killeen, Texas, and Vincent Gales and wife, Yolanda, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Hugh Miller Gales Sr. and wife, Clara, of Slidell, La.; one sister, Maggie Mock and husband, George, of New Orleans; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Gertrude Grayson and Charles Starks, both of Fayette; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Charles Collier, Louis Copridge, Joshua Dorsey, Keith Dorsey, Donald Ray Johnson and Larry Mack.
Honorary pallbearers will be Devin Bailey, Hugh Miller Gales Sr., Vernon Gales, Vincent Gales, Giovanni Fleming, Chester Lacy and Reginald Perryman.
