Block Bears fall to Mangham Dragons in Vidalia tourney, 10-0

A two-run homer in the fourth from Hunter Roberts and a strong pitching effort by Lance Clarkston help lift Mangham High School past Block 10-0 in five innings at the Vidalia Tournament Friday evening.
“The kids weren’t focused on the game,” Block coach Stevie McCarthy said. “When you’re not focused, you lack defense. We hit the ball (hard), but it was just right to them. They made some good plays.”
Block kept it competitive through the first three innings, but a pair of three-run rallies in the fourth and fifth helped propel Mangham to the win.
The Bears had their chances in this one, leaving the bases loaded in the fourth after stranding two more in the second.
“We struggled at the plate when we needed a hit,” McCarthy said. “If we got hits when we had men on base, it would have been a different story.”
Sophomore infielder Brennan Lippman led Block with two hits, while Braden Hammons collected a single.
Block will attempt to bounce back at 11 a.m. today when it faces Vidalia.
“We have to go error free, pitch well and hit,” McCarthy said.
