NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was charged Tuesday for reportedly kidnapping, beating and choking a woman with a belt at a motel last month.
Natchez Police Department Sgt. Jerry Ford said Arthur L. Moore, 41, 144 N. Shields Lane, Apt. A-8, reportedly picked up the victim on Feb. 22 and took her to the Red Carpet Inn on D’Evereux Drive so the two could use drugs.
Once inside a motel room, Ford said Moore reportedly barricaded the door with a dresser, beat the victim with a belt, cut her hair, forced a pillow over face and then choked her with a belt until she lost consciousness.
The next day, the victim reportedly told Moore she had to appear in Adams County Justice Court. When Moore took her to court, the victim was reportedly able to escape and call police.
The victim had visible injuries including bruises, Ford said, and police were able to confirm that Moore had purchased a room at the motel the day of the alleged incident.
Moore was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and an unrelated count of contempt of court.
Moore remained in the Natchez City Jail Thursday evening on a $250,524 bond.
