NATCHEZ — A year ago Tom and Sandy Taylor were ready to retire to Natchez from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but weren’t fully ready to leave their life on the water behind.

So, they decided to pack their belongings and bring the water with them.

The Taylors started Taylor’d Yacht Chartering as a way of remaining in the boating business they both loved while moving closer to family.

Taylor’d Yacht Chartering is a luxury yacht brokering company that matches clients to the vacation boat of their dreams.

The Taylors use their company Web site, www.taylordyacthcharters.com, to connect with clients all over the world.

It is through the power of the Internet, that the Taylors are able to run their business from their home office in Natchez.

“We can be anywhere in the world at anytime,” Sandy said.

Taylor’d Yacht Charters specializes in booking trips aboard super and mega yachts. A super yacht generally refers to a yacht over 80 feet in length and a mega yacht is normally 150 feet or longer, but Tom said the classification can vary depending on the luxuries aboard the boat.

Some boats come stocked with Jet Skis, hot tubs, water sports equipment like kayaks and snorkeling gear and the latest in electronics, Sandy said.

“A trip aboard one of these yachts is an experience like no other,” she said. “The crews are there to take care of everything you need.”

It is the Taylors job to make sure the client is paired with the right yacht, captain and crew. To do that, they find out as much detail about their clients and the trip the client desires before suggesting a boat.

“We need to know the number of guests, the dates, the yacht type, budget and the destination,” Sandy said. “But we also want to know what the purpose of the trip is. Is it a girls vacation or a party trip or a business group. The more we know, the better we can satisfy the client.”

Taylor’d Yacht Chartering has approximately 2,000 super and mega yachts all over the world using two yacht chartering databases.

“It is akin to the multiple listing service used by Realtors,” Tom said.

And not only do they have access to that many boats, they have visited approximately 70 percent of the boats they charter.

“If we charter you a yacht, there is a good chance we have been on the boat and know the crew,” Sandy said.

There is a good business reason behind knowing the boats they are chartering — they want to create yachting addicts.

“If we can satisfy a customer one time, then more than likely they are going to become a repeat customer,” Sandy said. “Yachting can be addictive.”

Yacht charters range between $2,000 for a week-long charter to $2.5 million depending on the boat chosen and the destination. Since the boats carry up to 12 passengers, Tom said a yacht charter isn’t necessarily out of reach.

“When you split that between the other people, it is really comparable to a week at a resort or on a cruise,” he said. “If you were to book the penthouse aboard a cruise ship or a vacation at a top-notch resort, you would expect to spend at least what you spend on a yacht charter.”

And with those trips, Sandy said, you don’t have nearly the same number of options to personalize the vacation.

With a yacht charter, the client is able to select the daily activities, plan the meals and beverages served and pick the places the boat stops.

“If you are on your boat, you say when you stop and when you go,” Sandy said. “You aren’t at the mercy of the itinerary because you can change the itinerary when you want.”

And aboard a private yacht charter, there is a little more elbow-room Sandy said.

“Why book a cruise and share a boat, when you can have the whole boat to yourself,” she said.
