Wharlest Jackson Sr., treasurer of the Natchez chapter of the NAACP, was killed after his vehicle was bombed on this day in 1967. The culprit was never found, though the FBI suspected the involvement of the Silver Dollar Group, an offshoot of the Ku Klux Klan. On Saturday, Miss-Lou Heritage Group and Tours founder Jeremy Houston led a crowd from the Wharlest Jackson Sr. Community Garden to the location where Jackson’s car was bombed.
