Weston High School’s senior duo of guard Madison Brown and forward Autumn Rushing proved to be too much for Monterey High School to slow down as Weston secured a 57-36 win Thursday night in the Bi-district round of the LHSAA Class B Playoffs.
Brown and Rushing scored 20 points apiece as No. 10 seed Weston (24-8-1) used a sharp-shooting second quarter to open up what was a close game after one quarter of play.
“We played hard. We got after it. They shot the ball extremely well,” Monterey head coach Cary Shivley said. “It was a good ball game. When they got open shots, they didn’t miss them.”
Weston was only up 8-4 on No. 23 seed Monterey at the end of the first quarter before the home team outscored the visitors 25-15 in the second quarter for a 33-19 halftime lead.
Makayla Finley and Andy Gray scored 12 points each to lead Monterey, which finished with an overall record of 10-16.
