NATCHEZ — Services for Antoine Waddell Battiste, 27, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, will be noon Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Martin Luther King Jr. Road, with the Rev. Michelle Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at Jerusalem Baptist Church No. 2, in Kingston, under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Battiste was born Dec. 18, 1989, in Natchez, the son of Freddie Battiste and Frankie Battiste.
He was a 2008 graduate of Natchez High School, Copiah-Lincoln Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
He attended Jerusalem Baptist Church No. 2.
Mr. Battiste was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dock and Gracie Shropshire and Clarence and Henrietta Battiste; one aunt, Lillie Shropshire; and two uncles, Ernest Shropshire and Tom Shropshire.
Survivors include his mother and his father and his wife, Robin; two brothers, Freddie Markieth Battiste and Jerome “Buck” Dunbar; one sister, Joyce Shropshire Kirk; stepbrother, Kendrick Conner; godmother, Dorothy Shropshire; godson, Christopher Shropshire; godsisters, Nytasha Anderson, Ashanti Cade and Olivia Shropshire; godbrother, Anthony “AJ” Smith Jr.; nephew, Kemair Battiste; two aunts, Dorothy Shropshire and Connie Ellis; nine uncles, James Shropshire and wife, Barbara, Willie Shropshire and wife, Kytina, Edward Shropshire and wife, Geraldine, Ronnie Batteaste and wife, Mary, Gary Batteaste and wife, Shaundra, Clarence Batts and wife, Evelyn, Gene Battieste and wife, Velma, Clyde Batteaste and wife, Debra, and Johnny Batteaste; very special friends, Anthony Mathis, Kevin Campbell, Terrance Brown, Franklin Chatman, Devin Mitchell, Latavia Winding, Vasskynee Bates, Thomas Knox and Byron Sullivan; a special friend who was like a sister, Latoya Davis; and a number of other relatives and friends.
