NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was killed Friday morning after his pickup truck collided with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 55 near Hazlehurst.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Eric Henry said Tony McKinley, 54, was driving a Ford F-150 truck southbound at approximately 6:50 a.m. on I-55 when he lost control and crossed over the media into the northbound land. McKinley’s truck clipped the front bumper of an 18-wheeler and flipped into a ditch, ejecting McKinley, who died instantly.

Henry said McKinley was not wearing a seat belt.

The 18-wheeler was occupied by two people. The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to Hardy Wilson Hospital with minor injuries. The passenger was not transported for medical treatment.

The crash is under investigation, Henry said.
