NATCHEZ — Services for Dorothy Jean Southern Rowlin, 85, of Lake St. John near Ferriday, who died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, both at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rowlin was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Baskin, La., the daughter of Chester Southern and Ruby Fortenberry Southern.
She was loved by many friends and family members. All knew Dorothy as a sweet and generous person. She owned and operated the Sandbar Restaurant in Vidalia for 30 years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Rowlin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Wesley “J.W.” Rowlin; one daughter-in-law, Sherrie Rowlin; four sisters, Doris Howard, Janice Southern, Nelda Bateman and Maxine Byargereon; and one brother, R.C. Southern.
Survivors include one son, Ricky Rowlin and companion, Tabitha Wroten, both of Natchez; two grandchildren, Jessica Rowlin Richardson and husband, Justin, of Ocala, Fla., and Christian Wroten of Natchez; two great-grandchildren, Anslee Richardson and Rowlin Richardson, both of Ocala; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Rowlin Richardson, Tom Carney, Christian Wroten, Dustin Wroten, James “Woodie” Mack, Jerry Miller and Butch Hammett.
