January has been a busy month for the nation and our community. With the first month of 2017 headed for the history books, let us look at some highlights from this past week.
–The Natchez-Adams Chamber of Commerce celebrated National School Choice Week with an event highlighting the wonderful opportunities in education that are offered in the Miss-Lou. All of Natchez’s K-12 schools, along with Alcorn State University and Copiah-Lincoln Community College introduced parents to the programs and curriculums available for area students. Thanks to the Chamber for helping highlight the numerous options available to parents.
-Katie Kammerdeiner is ready to be a role model for area youth. The senior who was crowned Miss Vidalia wants to show others how to eat healthy, exercise and learn how love their bodies. Having once known what it is like to struggle with weight and body image issues, the Vidalia High School senior said she wants to inspire others as a future personal trainer and mentor. With her enthusiasm and positive spirit, Kammerdeiner is setting an example for area youth and the entire Miss-Lou.
–The Historic Natchez Foundation recently hired Nicole Harris as it first full-time curator of collections. The Natchez historic preservation organization brought in the archaeologist to help categorize and organize its growing collection of photographs, documents and other artifacts. Harris will also help write grants and implement new cataloguing software. The addition of Harris to the staff is an exciting step for the foundation and for the community.
As we say goodbye to January and hello to February, let us remember to give thanks to everyone who is striving to make our community great.
