FERRIDAY — Services for Freddie Joe Tyson, 77, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Jerry Sharp Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Tyson was born May 22, 1939, in St. Joseph, the son of Oliver L. Tyson Sr. and Lottie Kelley Tyson.
He was a graduate of Ferriday High School and while attending University of Louisiana at Monroe, he participated in the ROTC program. In the early years, he began his professional career as a roustabout with his father. Freddie Joe pursued his love of mechanical work by developing his company, F.J. Tyson Engine and Compressor Service and later retired in 2009.
Freddie Joe loved life and lived it to the fullest. Some of his most enjoyable pastimes included piloting his small plane, gardening, caring for a number of pets, playing and listening to a variety of music and drinking coffee with his many friends. Spending time with his family brought him a lifetime of happiness.
He was an avid sportsman. One of his great loves was his camp on the Mississippi River. He derived great pleasure from donating the game of his hunting adventures.
Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margaret Morgan; one brother, Oliver Tyson Jr.; two daughters, Kathy Blount and Joy Simpson; one grandson, Joe Evans; and one nephew, Daniel Tyson.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Kathy Tyson; five daughters, Donna Tyson Walker and husband, Reggie, of Natchez, Kristy Edwards of Ferriday, Ginny Cutrer and husband, Phillip, of Woodville, Kathy Moreland and husband, Chuck, of Monterey and Sherry Bourque of New Orleans; one brother, Ronnie Tyson of Ferriday; 23 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chance Edwards, Christopher Houghton, Everett Holloway, Jarred Edwards, Jonathan Dodson, Phillip Cutrer II and Stephen Crain.
Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Graves, Gilford Hamilton, Hill Baker, JD Martin and Tony Brocato.
