FAYETTE — Services for Darol Lore Thorpe Sr., 85, of Union Church, who died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Jefferson County Nursing Home in Fayette, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spencer Funeral Home Chapel in Fayette with the Rev. Dennis Johnsey officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Church Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until time of service at Spencer Funeral Home.
Mr. Thorpe was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Adams County, the son of George Casper Thorpe and Pearl Kyle Thorpe.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from International Paper Company with 34 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane Perry Dunlap Thorpe; a son, Darol Lore Thorpe Jr.; two sons-in-law, Charles Warren Shelton and Terry Mitchell Boyles; and one great- grandchild, Lillyana Sage Thorpe.
Survivors include six children, Joday Boyles, Debbie Shelton, Kenny Thorpe, Karen Bush and husband, Jeff, Tina Carothers and husband, Davis, and Tracy Thorpe; one brother, James Edward Thorpe of Natchez; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Brent Bush, Jamie Boyles Chuck Shelton, Jason Shelton, Seth Shelton and Darol Thorpe III.
