UPDATE: Woman shot, killed at Morgantown Road residence

NATCHEZ — A 41-year-old woman was shot and killed at her residence in the 300 block of Morgantown Road Monday afternoon, marking the third fatal shooting in Natchez and Adams County in the past 10 days.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Elijah Hall, 41, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon for reportedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, Joyce Haynes.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said Haynes suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. ACSO Sgt. Cal Green said Haynes was shot multiple times.
ACSO received a call about the shooting at approximately 12:20 p.m. Haynes was pronounced dead at 1:25 p.m.
Green said Hall was apprehended on Brookfield Drive approximately 45 minutes after the shooting.
Patten said Monday evening deputies were still interviewing Hall and attempting to establish a motive for the shooting.
Two other unrelated shootings have occurred since the end of December.
Destiney Kennedy, 21, was shot in the chest Dec. 30 at the Natchez Youth Center. She died Jan. 4 after being taken off life support.
Jadarrius McKnight, 17, 500 W. Stiers Lane, and Kristopher Nelson, 17, 309 S. Bluebird Drive, were charged in connection with Kennedy’s death.
Lee Raymond Smith Jr. was shot and killed Jan. 3, and his half brother Kejuan Thompson shot multiple times on East Franklin Street.
No arrests have been made in that case.
