NATCHEZ — The Natchez Board of Aldermen recently approved an agreement between Natchez Water Works and the Adams County Water Association that will switch approximately nine customers over to city water.

A map accompanies the transfer agreement and delineates the area retained by ACWA and area transferred to Natchez Water Works on both sides of U.S. 61 North from St. Catherine Creek to nearly Cindy Lane off U.S. 61 North.

The move will affect approximately nine commercial customers in the area, Water Works attorney Walter Brown said, mostly in the area of Natchez Market, Church’s Chicken and Concordia Bank.

Water Works already provides sewer service to the area, so those customers would simply begin paying for water service at Water Works, Brown said.

The agreement addresses what was an ongoing dispute between the two water providers about which entities serviced the area that followed previous agreements and the annexation of that area by the city.

The agreement was reach amicably by Water Works and ACWA, Brown said, in an effort to make sure the areas serviced by both entities were clearly determined and no questions remained.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission must still approve the transfer agreement, at which time any affected customers will be notified, Water Works Superintendent Tony Moon said.
