Temple B’Nai awarded MDAH grant

JACKSON (AP) — Three southwest Mississippi preservation projects will receive more than $175,000 in grants from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
Temple B’nai Israel in Natchez, the Meadville Armory in Meadville and the Poplar Hill Museum of African American Culture in Fayette were included in the list of 17 preservation projects to receive money from the state. MDAH announced the nearly $2 million in grants Friday.
Temple B’nai Israel will receive $105,795 for roofing and electrical repairs along with interior rehabilitation work. The Meadville Armory will receive $39,600 for structure stabilization, foundation repair and plaster work. The Poplar Hill Museum will receive $29,904 for handicapped access and restoration projects.
Grants awarded for other projects outside the region include $370,000 to stabilize the structure and do restoration work at Bailey School in Jackson; $210,480 for the LaPointe-Krebs House in Pascagoula, to preserve the building’s mid-18th century characteristics; $160,000 for restoration of the M&O Depot in Aberdeen; and $156,894 for roof repairs and drainage improvement at the Jones County Courthouse in Ellisville.
