NORWOOD, La. — A Woodville teenager died Thanksgiving afternoon after a single vehicle crash on Louisiana 422 near the Mississippi State line.
Emily Sessions, 14, died in a wreck near Norwood, La., at approximately 4 p.m., Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Trooper Bryan Lee said in a press release.
Lee said the initial investigation of the wreck determined that Sessions was a backseat passenger in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler headed west on Louisiana 422 when a bug flew into the vehicle and distracted the driver.
Lee said the driver lost control and the vehicle ran off the road and went down a steep embankment.
Investigators determined Sessions was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office, Lee said.
The driver and a front seat passenger were wearing seat belts and received moderate injuries in the crash.
The driver is not suspected of being impaired, but a blood test from the driver will be taken for analysis, Lee said.
