NATCHEZ —An Adams County man is behind bars and charged with multiple crimes after a runaway teenager was reportedly found last week in his custody.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cal Green said deputies were contacted by the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center about a runaway 14 year old who was wearing a monitoring device that showed the teen in the area of Terrace Motel.
Deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Roderick Dewayne Hoggatt, 47, 2B Saragossa Road, and removed the teen from the vehicle and transported the teen to the juvenile detention center.
Hoggatt was arrested on an outstanding ACSO warrant for simple assault by fear.
A search of his vehicle reportedly turned up large quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, hydrocodone and a handgun reported stolen in Terrebonne Parish, La. A search of the motel room reportedly recovered more drugs.
Hoggatt was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of schedule II controlled substance (hydrocodone), possession of schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of schedule II controlled substance (powder cocaine), simple assault by fear and contributing to the neglect of delinquency of a minor.
Green said Hoggatt had been convicted of felonies in at least four states, and he may face additional charges pending further investigation.
Hoggatt was being held in the Adams County Jail Tuesday on a $66,000 bond.
