SICILY ISLAND — Services for Donald Ashley, 66, of Sicily Island, who died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, in Alexandria, La., will be 2 p.m. today at Sicily Island First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Gass officiating.   1122-donaldashley-obitpic
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro, La.
Mr. Ashley was a member of Sicily Island First Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver. He loved mowing and his tractor. He also loved his family, adored his grandchildren and loved to be surrounded by them.
Mr. Ashley served the community of Sicily Island in a number of ways as a member of Sicily Island Medical Center board and as a former constable and city council member. He loved playing his guitar and singing. He was just a real people person , somewhat a talker, generous and kind.
Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by his parents; Nathan and Ella Ashley; twin sons, Jason and Jody Ashley; one sister, Gerdine Aarons; his in-laws, Clayton and Ira Cotton; and a special sister-in-law, Doris Book.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joy Ashley; one son, Donald Kevin Ashley and wife, Christy, of Edmond, Okla.; four grandchildren, Donald Jaydon Ashley, Austin Ashley, Ava Ashley and Sophia Ashley; and two sisters, Ann McElwee and husband, Robert, of Hammond, La., and Adrisha Jenkins and husband, Barry, of Sicily Island.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hilton, Bill McCarty, Arte Goode, Patrick Searcy, Tim McQuillin and Larry Cotten.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Book, Dallas Batey Jr., Walter Myers, John Bird, Mark McMillin and Jeff Walker.
