NATCHEZ — Services for James Edward Smith, 55, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will follow at Rounds Family Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 26, 1956, in Natchez, the son of Annie Rounds Smith and Walter Smith Sr. He was employed by Logan’s Construction Company as a carpenter/painter.
Mr. Smith also served in the U.S. Army. He was Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Walter Smith Jr. and Terry Smith; one sister, Gail Cage; one nephew, Larry “L.J.” Brown Jr.; and one granddaughter, Terriana Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Coritha Ransom Smith; four daughters, missionary Tosha Thompson and husband, Terry, of Roxie, Kate Williams of New York, Jamalyn Smith and Jazmin Kiara Smith, both of Natchez; his mother of Sibley; two sisters, JoAnn Williams, all of Natchez, evangelist Brenda Brown and husband, Larry Sr., of Roxie; mother-in-law, Aurine White and husband, Bodie White Sr.; father-in-law, Odell Hawkins; sister-in-law, Dorothy “Velma” Smith; two aunts, Mary Rounds and husband, Alex, all of Natchez, and Josephine Willis of Port Gibson; one uncle, M.L. Smith and wife, Tillie, of Natchez; special nephew, Nick Smith of Sibley; and a number of nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
