NATCHEZ — Services for Seth McCallen Haney Jr., 88, of Lafayette, La., and formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, in Lafayette, will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with his great nephew, Austin Bean, officiating.
Burial will follow at Gillsburg Memorial Gardens in Amite County under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Sunday, both at the funeral Home.
Mr. Haney was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Liberty, the son of Seth McCallen Haney Sr. and Exah Ashley Haney.
He was married to Evelyn Jean Bean Haney for 71 years and most of those years they were residents of Natchez. He served his country during World War ll as a U.S. Navy Seaman and continued his service in the Korean War as a member of the 1343 Engineering Combat Battalion Sgt. 1st Class. After his service, he attended Southwest Junior College in Summit and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He and his wife relocated to Natchez and maintained a number of businesses, including Haney’s Ambulance and Wrecker Service, Haney’s Auto Parts Store, Haney’s Body shop, Haney Conoco Gas Station, Continental Oil Bulk Plant and Haney’s Claim Service. He also retired as an adjuster for Crawford and Company in Natchez after selling his businesses, and then started Haney’s Claim Service. He just enjoyed people!
He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Natchez Masonic Hall and a Shriner with the Wahabi Temple in Jackson, a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Natchez and former Duke of the Krewe of Phoenix in Natchez and an avid Ole Miss fan.
His love of music was his inspiration to become a self-taught piano player as well as other instruments. He enjoyed playing music with groups around Natchez and volunteering his musical talent with nursing homes around Natchez.  He also enjoyed playing music with his musically talented grandchildren.  He was an avid pilot, both airplanes and helicopters. PawPaw was gifted at restoring antique cars and trucks and took pride in this as a hobby.
His life consisted of his family. He would say he was “so proud of his family ” constantly.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died when he was 6 years old and his mother, Exah Ashley Haney-Hudson; grandparents, Sidney McCoy Haney and Mary Carter Haney of Liberty and William and Gertrude Jarrette Ashley of Buffalo.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Judy Haney Sullivan and Debra Haney Doyle Veillon and husband, Sherwin, of Lafayette;  four grandchildren, James Buckner Doyle Jr. of Lake Charles, La.,  Seth McCallen Haney Doyle (Callen) of Sulphur, La., Stratton William Bean Doyle and Brittany Doyle Hodges and husband, John, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, David Heard Doyle ( who is attending U.S. Marines Basic Training at  Paris Island, S.C.), Haley Doyle, Jordan Doyle and Lucie McCallen Doyle of Sulphur, Zoe Doyle, Chloe Doyle of Lake Charles and Preston John Haney Hodges, all of Lafayette; one sister, Bobbie Jean Haney Smith of Natchez; and one brother, Jerry Hudson and wife, Rachel, of Princeton, La.; one sister-in-law, Nellie Bean Hale of McComb; and  a number of nieces and nephews .
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jamey, Seth McCallen and Stratton Doyle, and nephews, Ed (A) Bean of McComb, Billy Bean Jr. and Brad Bean of Gillsburg and Barry Bean of Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephew, Tim Bean of Gillsburg, Earlie Durham of Baton Rouge, Ken Whittington, Joe Stedman, Terry Estes, all of Natchez, and Terry Haney of Baton Rouge.
