Silas Simmons Tigers’ Javelyn Robinson ran for 191 yards and scored three touchdowns to help lift his team past the Ferriday Trojans in the Miss-Lou Youth Football 13-and-under Super Bowl Thursday night in Vidalia.
“We did it last year, and I told the kids we were going to win it this year, and we were able to do it back to back,” Tigers coach Ricky Tolliver said.
Robinson ran through, around and raced passed Trojan defenders all game long, showcasing his superb speed on multiple long-gainers.
Ferriday started the scoring off on its first play from scrimmage after Ty Milligan took the handoff and raced up the middle for a 50-yard scoring run.
But it was all Tigers after that.
The Tigers outgained the Trojans for the game 206 to 148.
“I’ve got nice a little group of kids,” Tolliver said. “My whole team is great. I love all of them. Next year, if we’re in the league, we’re going to get another one next year.”
Milligan ran for 128 yards to lead Ferriday.
Concordia Bank Redskins 8,
Tensas Bank Lawdogs 7
The Concordia Bank Redskins were held scoreless during Thursday’s Super Bowl for the game’s first 18 minutes.
But when the Redskins needed a spark the most, their players delivered.
Quarterback Ronald Ellis connected with wide receiver Kenyan Hence for a long 50-yard scoring strike that tied the game, then the duo hooked up again for the 2-point conversion to give their team a slim 8-7 lead over the Tensas Bank Lawdogs.
“(Hence) is fast, and I knew if he got open, he was gone,” Redskins coach Ron Ellis said. “He was open every time, so we decided to give it to him.”
The Redskins then stood tall defensively to preserve the 10-and-under Super Bowl win.
The two teams remained scoreless until late in the fourth quarter when Lawdogs Dajuan Culbert busted through the middle for a 3-yard scoring plunge.
But the Redskins didn’t blink.
“This feels real good,” Ellis said. “This was a long, hard fight. This is an awesome feeling. These boys worked hard all year, and they deserve this.”
Culbert finished with 96 yards rushing for the Lawdogs.
