NATCHEZ — The Natchez 12-year-old All-Stars exploded for 16 runs against Wesson Thursday evening.
And with its pitching combining for a two-hitter, Wesson didn’t have much of a chance as the 12s completed a shutout in four innings.
The 12s scored four runs in the first inning, and six in the second inning, and head coach Terry Moffett said his team was able to put a lot of pressure on Wesson those two innings.
“We had good timely hits, and were having quality at-bats. We were driving the ball into the holes where they weren’t at, and that made a difference,” Moffett said.
Tyler Wilson started for the 12s, pitching the first two innings and striking out four and giving up one hit.
“Tyler got us going. The first three batters, he went three up and three down,” Moffett said.
Edwin Byrne pitched the final two innings, yielding just one hit.
Christopher White went 3-for-3, and Byrne and Andrew Beesley both went 2-for-3.
The 12s will play Wesson again tonight at 6:30, and Moffett said his team understands that what happened Thursday has no bearing on tonight’s game.
“We know that today was just a step. We know that tomorrow’s another step, and our approach is the same way, taking it each game at a time,” Moffett said.
