FERRIDAY — A third Ferriday man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an Oct. 23 shooting at Tootie’s Body Shop.
Ferriday Police arrested Vondell Aimon Hawkins, 28, 807 Second St., on five counts of attempted second-degree murder Friday.
Ferriday Police Department Assistant Police Chief Bruce Wiley said late Thursday night officers spotted Hawkins while on patrol and apprehended him.
Previously, Demon’Tay Deon Dunbar, 19, 807 Second St., and Kenderic K. Sheppard, 18, 250 Eugene Road, were each charged with five counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Dunbar was arrested Oct. 25 on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and resisting an officer by flight, and the attempted murder charges were filed later.
Sheppard was charged Oct. 27 and is also facing a second-degree battery charge stemming from an unrelated incident a few months ago. Ferriday Police Investigator Richard Madison said the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Sheppard.
Hawkins, Dunbar and Sheppard are accused of firing handguns at Tootie’s Body Shop during an argument with a relative of the shop’s owner.
During the shooting, three customers, the shop’s owner and one of the owner’s relatives were present. No one was injured during the shooting, Madison said.
More than 15 rounds were recovered at the scene, Madison said. A residence across the street on Tennessee Avenue was struck by several rounds during the shooting.
Hawkins, Dunbar and Sheppard were in jail Friday afternoon. Hawkins with no bond set, Dunbar on a $375,000 bond and Sheppard on a $105,000 bond.
