The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels overcame a shaky third quarter to defeat the Jackson Preparatory School Lady Patriots 49-41 Tuesday night at the East Rankin Academy Tournament.

“As I always say, to God be the glory. Any time you get to play basketball, it’s a gift,’ ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “We learned a lot against some good opponents in our first two games.”

The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 17-7 lead over the Lady Patriots after one quarter of play and continued to extend their lead in the second quarter en route to a 31-16 halftime lead.

However, Class AAA ACCS allowed Class AAAA Jackson Prep to get back in the game no thanks to turnovers and missed shots. The Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Rebels 18-6 in the third quarter to cut the lead to three points, 37-34, by the quarter’s end.

But just like in the first two quarter, ACCS’s defense stepped in and that allowed the Lady Rebels to pull away for the eight-point win.

“I saw some good things and I saw some things we need to work on. All of our miscues are correctable,” Hall said. “In both games we had nice leads and they came back. If we learn from this, we’ll be stronger down the road. We just have to believe in the process and get it done.

Bailey Boyd led ACCS with 11 points while Caitlyn Gamberi and Brianna Henson scored 10 points each for the Lady Rebels.

The other game Hall was referring to was the season-opener Monday night against tournament host East Rankin Academy, also a Class AAA team. The Lady Rebels held on for a 53-50 win.

ACCS (2-0) doesn’t play again until Monday, Nov. 14 at Monterey High School. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
