Tyler Thomassie scored on a 1-yard run with 7:03 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Centreville Academy Tigers rallied to beat the Silliman Institute Wildcats 21-13 Friday night in the first round of the MAIS Class AAA State Playoffs.
“We just got into our slot running formation. On 4th and 3, we were able to get the first down. We were able to score in the fourth quarter. Then it boiled down to defense,” Centreville assistant coach Robbie Isonhood said.
Silliman, the No. 14 seed, jumped out to a 13-7 lead thanks to a pair of Ryder Lockhart touchdown passes.
It remained that way until Austen Addington scored his second touchdown of the night on an 8-yard run with 4:41 to go in the third quarter, but the extra point was no good, leaving the score tied at 13-13.
“Silliman came out and played a physical game. It was a true defensive game tonight,” Isonood said. Addington led No. 2 seed Centreville with 145 yards rushing on 26 carries.
Centreville Academy (9-2) will host No. 6 seed Greenville St. Joseph in the quarterfinals next Friday at 7 p.m.
