Natchez golfer Chase Kaiser has demonstrated his skills on a regular basis to competitors for the past several years.
On Wednesday, the 14 year old got to showcase his talents to a golf pro.
Kaiser competed alongside 2016 top-40 US Open finisher Rob Oppenheim and others in the 2016 BankPlus Friends of Children’s Golf Junior Pro-Am Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson.
“It was really cool,” Kaiser said. “There was a lot of people walking around, and I got to see some guys I’ve seen on T.V. a lot.”
The team of Kaiser, Oppenheim and three other MJGA golfers combined to shoot 7-under-72 in the shamble style tournament format, where the golf team selects one best tee shot, then finish out the round their own golf balls from that position. The team finished in fourth place at the event.
The Cathedral School student shot 1-under for his round.
“It was a good round,” Kaiser said. “I actually played pretty good, and I hit the ball solid. I got used to the pressure after the first hole.”
Kaiser said he learned a great deal playing alongside Oppenheim.
“He was good and fun to watch,” Kaiser said. “He was very friendly and talked to us a lot.”
Perhaps Kaiser’s biggest growth as a player is developing the ability to play under pressure.
“Standing on the first tee box there was a good amount of people on the putting surface and driving range watching me tee off,” Kaiser said. “It was a nerve wracking tee shot.”
