NATCHEZ — The Natchez Fire Department is taking applications for the position of probationary firefighter.
Anyone interested must complete an application at the City of Natchez Human Resources Office in the City Council Chambers on Pearl Street.
Deadline for completed applications is Thursday. The written test will be given on Nov. 8.
Duties of a new firefighter include firefighting, operating pump, hoses and related equipment, providing emergency aid, working with hazardous materials, inspecting buildings and fire hydrants, containing and extinguishing tasks related to fighting fires.
Firefighters must maintain good physical and mental capabilities to function under prolonged and stressful situations, extreme heights, intense heat and smoke.
Qualified applicants must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED, possess a current driver’s license, pass a background check and a civil service interview after successfully passing the Civil service written exam.
The Natchez Fire Department will train all new hires on all fire related skills necessary to perform the job. Certified Firefighters are also welcome to apply for positions at the Natchez Fire Department.
