Delta Charter sets sights on Delhi High

Delta Charter School has been led by its high-octane offense all season long.
But last Friday night, the Storm’s defense rose to the occasion to help give DCS its first win since its season opener Sept. 1.
Delta Charter (2-6, 1-4) beat Sicily Island High School 15-6, and first-year coach Zach Rogel said he is hopeful for a repeat performance Friday night when his squad hosts district rival Delhi.
“They played big, especially against an athletic team,” he said. “We really focused our practices on defense, and we sold the kids that defense would win it.”
Delhi (3-4, 2-2) has won two of its past three contests, and Rogel said he is not taking the Bears lightly.
“They’re scary good,” he said. “They’re a team that can get really hot really quickly. They’re impressive on film. They run the spread and bring the heat on defense. It’s going to be all hands on deck.”
Delhi narrowly beat Delta Charter last season, 32-24.
A win Friday night would give DCS back-to-back wins for the first time in the school’s young program.
“We’re still looking for that key win to show improvement from last year (3-7),” he said. “That’s what we’re shooting for. We have to prepare our very best and go out there and play hard, and hopefully come out with a victory.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
