The Vidalia High School Vikings could not get into any kind of a rhythm Friday night against a stingy Marksville High School Tigers defense.
Vidalia was limited to just four first downs and only 91 yards of total offense in a 26-6 loss to LHSAA District 3-3A foe Marksville, ranked No. 8 in this week’s LSWA Class 3A poll.
Ze Ballard had touchdown runs of 5 yards in the first quarter and 10 yards in the second quarter. Freshman quarterback Daniel Miller threw a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Tigers (7-1, 5-0).
The Vikings were able to avoid being shut out when Tristan Weatherly connected with Josh Pace on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 3:26 to go in the third quarter.
That was the only highlight in what was a rough night for Vidalia. Weatherly was sacked five times for minus-27 yards. The Vikings’ leading rusher was Terry Brown, who had 50 yards on 19 carries.
Weatherly completed seven of 16 passes for 53 yards. DeMikal McCoy had four catches for 38 yards.
Vidalia (3-5, 1-4) plays host to Winnfield High School next Friday at 7 p.m.
